Maternal/Child Health Classes

All Maternal/Child Health Classes are taught by certified childbirth educators and board certified lactation consultants. To register, call 703-369-8543. Please note that classes fill up quickly so register as soon as possible. The Wellness Center reserves the right to cancel classes that do not meet the minimum number of participants. Prices are subject to change. All fees are non-refundable.

Childbirth Preparation
This five-week course provides the expectant mother and her support person with information on pregnancy, labor, birth, breathing, relaxation and the post partum period. Topics on medication, anesthesia and cesarean are also discussed. Please bring three pillows, a blanket and a snack. (NOTE: A tour of the Birthing Center is not included with this class.)

Weekend Childbirth Preparation
Designed for busy couples unable to attend the five-week program, this two-day accelerated course covers the same principles taught in the five-week series, but is completed in one weekend. This program provides the expectant mother and support person with information on the normal labor process, comfort techniques, pain management, and post-partum period. Other topics to be discussed include labor interventions, anesthesia, cesarean births, and recovery. (NOTE: A tour of the Birthing Center is not included with this class.)

Baby Care Basics
This class is a must for parents expecting their first child. Learn about your newborn's appearance, diapering, bottle and breastfeeding, cord care, circumcision care, crying, comforting your baby and more. This class is taught by a registered nurse.

Breastfeeding
This class is taught by a lactation specialist. Learn techniques to make breastfeeding easy and successful. Class fee includes participant and one adult partner.
